Saturday 8 December: Forever Diamond Show

Neil Diamond is a phenomenon who gives truly special and personal shows that legions of fans return to see again and again. A style that transcends music fads by consistently touching people of all ages and interests. The personal and magical interaction Diamond has on stage with an audience is legendary, breaking all box office records wherever he performs.

Now here is your opportunity to experience that same spontaneous display of energy and sensuality with the superb talents of Peter Byrne and Forever Diamond, a show performing Diamonds greatest hits spanning over three decades, in an uncanny portrayal that has to be seen to be believed. Peter Byrne’s capacity to recreate Neil Diamond to a standard which impressed Diamond’s pianist on his last Australian tour says it all. Tom Hensley gave Peter a resounding nod of approval after seeing his Diamond tribute. The hightlight no doubt was in 2003 when Peter won his third ‘MO” award  and his idol found out …

Irishman Byrne’s singing voice is eerie in its likeness to the megastar and providing the impetus for Byrne’s performance is a relentless pursuit to raise his Diamond act to a level that the man himself would endorse.

Peter’s career highlights are too many to mention, but the ones that stick in his mind was meeting his idol, Neil Diamond in 1996. In August 1997 he celebrated the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest live albums of the 70’s Hot August Night, His idea was to re-enact every song from the album as Diamond recorded (with 30 piece symphony orchestra), and he did just that; and over 5,000 people were taken on a trip down memory lane.Every year since then Peter has performed to over 100,000 Diamond fans in venues such as Melbournes Crown Casino, QPAC, Empire Theatre, State Theatre, Concourse.Peter along with the countries best symphonies including The Sydney International Orchestra, The Canberra Symphony Orchestra, The Australian Pops Orchestra, The Queensland Pops Orchestra and The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

2010 saw Peter’s dream of performing his symphony show under the stars with two sell-out shows at Twilight at Taronga in front of 4500 people. Two amazing nights…

Over the years Peter has been recognized by his peers in 2001,2002,2003 and 2004 when Peter won the prestigious ‘MO’ Award for Best Variety Production show and  ACE Award for Best Tribute Show in 2001, 2002 ,2003,2004,2006,2007and 2008.

“It remains to be seen if Byrne, once reaches perfection strives to out-do his idol, however, the day I see a better Diamond, will be the day the man himself appears on stage... “ (Adrain Revere...The Mercury)

“PETER BYRNE IS NO ROUGH DIAMOND”

Saturday 19 January: The Screaming Jets with Support

As they approach their 30th anniversary, one of Australia’s most loved and respected rock bands, The Screaming Jets, are gearing up to celebrate the success of their very special record – GOTCHA COVERED

GOTCHA COVERED , the eighth full-length album from The Jets, was largely inspired by the band’s favourite radio hits of the last 50+ years, and songs that evoke nostalgic reference to the past. The Screaming Jets salute an eclectic collection of Aussie artists with their own trademark interpretation of songs from The Easybeats, Men At Work, Paul Kelly, The Angels, You Am I, Hoodoo Gurus, INXS and AC/DC, just to name a few.

The Screaming Jets are well known for their ability to take a classic song and make it their own … think Roland Howard’s “Shivers”, Barry MacGuire’s “Eve of Destruction”, Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”, Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In the Free World” … they’ve adopted these songs as their own over the years.

In typical maverick style, the boys have taken it to the next level with an album of covers from a legendary line-up of Australian artists that have in some way, over three decades, influenced the band’s illustrious rock odyssey.

Produced by longtime collaborator Steve James (All For One, Living in England EP, Tear of Thought, World Gone Crazy and the band’s most recent release from 2016, Chrome), the selection of tracks were recorded raw and live at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne earlier in the year.   What came out of the studio was a collection of 15 iconic Aussie songs spanning the mid 1960’s to late 1990’s, paying homage to a cross-section of Australian music history.

Singer and front man Dave Gleeson muses, “What we came up with was a great Aussie party album. Covering songs that have shaped us; songs from our youth; songs that have been written and performed by contemporaries and songs that will make even the most loyal fan go “what the” … I can’t wait to get out with the boys and belt these songs out with the rest of Australia…”

The closing track of GOTCHA COVERED, ‘Guitar Band’, features 16 of Australia’s finest guitar players (not including Jets players Scott Kingman and Jimi Hocking) contributing to what has become an epic version of Stevie Wright’s 1974 classic. Turning the 3min 21sec original song into a 14 min 21 sec musical behemoth, as The Jets’ Paul Woseen says, “Guitar Band turned into our own Guitarmageddon, featuring solos from solos from some of Australia’s finest guitar players.”

The guesting shredders include Rick Brewster (The Angels), Nat Allison (Suzi Quatro), Tim Henwood (SuperJesus/ Palace Of The King), Cam McKenzie (Horsehead/ Mark Seymour band), Bob Spencer (The Angels/ Rose Tattoo), Dave Leslie (Baby Animals), Brett Kingman (James Reyne), Brett Williams (the Choirboys), Warwick Scott (Skunkhour), Ronnie Simmons (Richie Ramone), Danny Spencer (Jimmy Barnes/ Richard Clapton), Chris Hawker (Taxiride), Pete Wanno (Suzi Quatro/ Josie Jason), Stuart Fraser (Noiseworks/ John Farnham), Stu Marshall (Empires Of Eden) and Zakk Zedras (Chocolate Starfish).

Catch the Screaming Jets on the Gotcha Covered Tour at Pittwater RSL.

The October Coach Trip will increase your love for Southern Highlands history.

This tour takes us off the beaten track in the beautiful Southern Highlands exploring areas that are among the most picturesque yet least traveled. Of course we will take in the major towns of Mittagong and Bowral but our guide historian, Judith Dunn, will also take us through Glenquarry, Kangaloon, Bong Bong, Burrawang and Wildes Meadow. We will see some of the beautiful old homes that were built by Sydney’s elite in the 1800’s as summer residences as they sought to escape the oppressive heat and humidity of the plain. The Tooth Brothers, Hordern Brothers, Von Nida, the Fairfax Family and explorers John Oxley and Charles Throsby were just some of those that built homes here and Judith will illuminate their rich history. We will also travel past many of the lovely private gardens and lush cattle and horse studs as we climb the ridge line of the Mittagong Range.

Our lunch today is a picnic at Fitzroy Falls in the Morton National Park and there will be a little time to enjoy our amazing surroundings before we continue on to Bong Bong and Eridge Park. Here we will see the lovely Christ Church (availability permitting) and the home of Sir Robert Lucas Tooth built entirely of white cedar.

COMPLIMENTARY Coffee or Beer or Glass of Wine on return to the Club.
